I'm quickly discovering a trend in these blog posts. I think it is a safe bet to say that my most commonly used noun just might be... Macro invertebrates! On Monday, I was able to lead yet another round of macro invertebrate identifying stations. Except this day was seventh graders. While seventh graders are not my strong point as an elementary major, I have recently become more accustomed to them. In the spring semester on campus I volunteered in a tutoring and mentoring program at Goshen Middle School that gave me a little insight into working with this unique age group.

Once I was assigned the I.D. station, I was excited. Thinking about my tutoring kids, I knew this would be something that they would love. I mean what middle schooler doesn't love critters and feeling scientific. The stations really seemed to run themselves. The kids were helping eachother identify, asking countless questions, and paying so much attention to something that would normally not even be on their radar. It was great to see the students get out of their comfort zones and be passionate about something as simple as identifying larva!
