Flashback to 7th grade

Today we had 90 seventh graders from my old middle school, Central Noble. This was a moment of truth for me. I have, admittedly, been enjoying teaching the elementary students. I had to try both, being my first education class, to make sure I enjoyed teaching one age group more than the other.

As usual, Abby and I taught together. To say the least, she was not having a fun time. I, on the other hand, didn't have many troubles. For the first half of the day we did the hiking around the Marshland showing them cat tail, garlic mustard, trying to catch reptiles and amphibians, and playing with bed straw (my personal favorite!). I attempted to catch a few northern water snakes, but came up empty handed! They were too fast!

For the second half of the day we went to the Learning Center by bus then hiked back after a snake show. I got to show everyone who Don was. On the hike, nobody was interested quite like the elementary students. It was a social event, which I understand because when I came here with Central Noble I didn't care much either. One thing that really bothered Abby was the topics they decided to talk about in their own groups. Many perverted conversations were caught by Abby and I, which resulted in us shooting looks at each other. That's to be expected from a group of kids developing excessive levels of testosterone, which was foreign to them before the last year or two.

I can't say I didn't enjoy today, but I can't say I did. I am moderate on the middle school level. I definitely like elementary education better. Maybe I can get some experience with secondary education before I decide which one of the ladder ends I like better!
