Macros, Snakes, and Ice cream... oh my!

Today we had fifth graders from my home town of Warsaw and it was great! The whole group had only 17 kids, so keeping them together worked great. I even knew one of the kiddos from summer camp and was able to get her more involved. She started the day with ewws and yucks, but ended it wanting to catch a frog! yay! Again, I worked Macro Invertebrates and boy did we find some cool things. We found a huge tadpole, a water beetle, a couple of dragonfly nymph and a plethora of snails. We used our cup system again, and the kids did a great job of sharing specimens! When I gave the talk about the pollution index, a teacher even remarked that the kids were in the zone! Between the weather and the sense of community, today was pretty easy going.

The hike turned out to be the most adventurous part of the day. I hiked with Jordan and Stacy, and Jordan, being a hike leader today, took the lead. We had four boys and they were eager to catch frogs and snakes- both of which we saw! Sadly, we weren't able to get them. The energy was high and the boys loved being outdoors.

We ended the day with a treat at JR's! Thanks Paul! I even ate a turtle! Well...it was a chocolate turtle. All in all, a lovely day.
