Hot Weather and Seventh Graders

I didn’t know how this day was going to go but I ended up loving it.  I never have seen myself teaching older grades like seventh grade because I always thought that my height would have me lose control of the students.  I learned quickly though that these students do listen to me if I ask them too and I did have control on all of my lessons.  I also quickly related to them when they would come up and talk to me I would ask them things and they were just so happy that someone in college was willing to listen to them.  I made lots of connections with students by doing this, which made teaching easier and my time easier.
I think what I also realized that even though I don’t like something I could easily compose myself, and make people think that I like it.  What I mean is that today a snake ran into my boot and I did not bat an eye.  I was secretly freaking out inside but I didn’t want the seventh grade girls to be scared of going into the water, and I wanted to show them that if you don’t do anything to them the snakes won’t do anything to you.  I think I did a pretty good job because the girls stopped freaking out about snakes and were starting to focus more on finding snails and tadpoles.

This ended up being a great day and I am actually excited about all of the middle school and freshman we will be having this week.
