Wetlands and Cold weather

Today was a really wet day and I was in the water all day long.  What I was surprised about was the fact that the 3rd graders did not complain out all.  I was worried since it was already cold outside, plus I was not able to find much in the water for the students to look at.  I couldn't even find any nests, or frogs.  Then half way through our wetlands it started to rain in a soaking drenching way.  Despite all of that all of 3rd graders loved getting in the wetland and just walking around in the weeds trying to look for things.  They were more excited about finding snails and shells than the fact that they were not able to find any snakes or living creatures in the mud.  This was great because they lifted my spirits just by being so excited to be in the wetlands and also having so much fun.
I also surprised myself by actually liking dipping.  I think it is because I have done it so much that I have become an expert at it and I really enjoy letting the kids go and have them explore.  It is more of a student-lead activity which I am a big advocate for.  Over all I totally appreciated today despite the weather and despite the fact that some students fell into the water.
