Today I have been pondering how the mood of the instructor impacts the behaviors of all participants in a given setting. This topic arose when I was anticipating handling ‘Don’ the snake. Yesterday, I was unaware that Don would be very active immediately following extracting him from his cage. This time, I knew that he would thrash around, which made me tense. My mood had an influence on my behavior. Moods cannot be contained within one person. They permeate through our environment whether we intend it or not. Handling a snake while tense makes the snake tense. Dealing with a stressful situation in a stressed mindset makes others stressed. It just makes sense.
