This being the second day of teaching, it went smoother than the first. It was nice to have ironed out some kinks that had happened with preschoolers, along with having the most beautiful day to show nature to these kids. The thing I probably struggled the most with was when to let kids explore and when to ring them in and teach them something. At first we kept stopping every little bit to talk about something we saw, and then for a while we just had them walking and looking at things. I feel like as I keep taking school groups around I will become more comfortable on knowing when to teach the students something and when to let them just explore.
Since it was the most beautiful day, it helped to watch the movie life on land after seeing many things on the land. One of the questions I had was why does Indiana have so many trees? It was answered with the movie and during our geology class about the glaciers bring tons of different types of soils from Canada to Indiana. It also was so amazing to think that this land use to have mountains until the glaciers came and flatted the landscape. I never knew that glaciers were even part of Indiana's history let along the sole factor of why our state is the way it is. This makes perfect sense why we have so many distinct features that make us different from flat places like Kansas or Missouri.
Over all I found that today was an amazing day to take kids around the ponds. I also found that Indiana's landscape and foliage is because of the glaciers that came and brought tons of different soils along with flatting the land.
