Day 5: 7th Graders

It was an early morning on Monday May 12, 2014 as half of the Goshen College Biology 340 Class prepared for class as they collected macro invertebrates in the marsh. With the help of democracy we were placed into an activity which we carried out all morning until lunch. I instructed the Macro Invertebrate Mayhem which I really enjoyed. I didn't know what to expect with the 7th grade students since I had never worked with them before but they also enjoyed the game and left with information that will hopefully benefit them later in the future. Lunch ended and it was time for our hike. The students dictated and wanted to go through the longer trail which surprised me. I wouldn't have expected them to want to go on a long hike. It turned out that I forgot to take a left turn right before the cabin and got lost for a couple of minutes. When we got back we didn't have enough time to do the scavenger hunt so I gave my group a tour of Rieth Village. The student and teachers were surprised by how much of the buildings used recyclable energy or recyclable material.

The students left and we hopped on our vehicles and raced to greet our guest who would show us how to strip bark off an Elm Tree. I learned many things and I got to use his ax to ax at the Elm Tree.
